Fake CVs from seafarers are an increasing challenge in maritime recruitment and one that Danica Crewing has highlighted within the industry. With ship databases widely available online it has become relatively simple for anyone to create a convincing CV using AI and showing experience on almost any vessel. Many fake CVs look very professional and can be difficult to detect however we use several tools and checks to uncover inconsistencies.
Database cross-checks
With 15+ years of recruitment history and a database of 70,000+ seafarers, we compare new applications with previous records to identify differences in sea service, ranks, vessel names, or dates.
Vessel and document verification
We verify vessel details through professional maritime databases and carefully review Seaman’s Books, SIRB records, and discharge books to ensure sea service records are consistent.
Timeline checks
When required, we compare passport travel records with vessel movements on platforms such as Equasis to confirm that joining and sign-off dates are realistic.
Industry knowledge and references
Our recruiters know the market well. If something looks unusual, it raises a red flag. We also check references with previous employers whenever possible. Careful screening helps ensure our clients receive reliable, verified candidates.
