Widespread wage rises for seafarers appear to have ceased at present our information shows. This is despite the demand for highly competent officers remaining high.
Compared to previous quarters, we have seen no increases in seafarers wage demands for the fourth quarter of 2024 (4Q-24) and the first quarter of 2025 (1Q-25).
Meanwhile, the differences in wages between nationalities has narrowed, although some gaps still exist.
Danica CEO Henrik Jensen comments: “It is of course difficult to point at one specific reason why the wage spindle has stopped turning. One reason could be the world economy has become unsure and earnings for ship owners have dropped, making them less generous.”
Our data is based on the countries where Danica has its own recruitment offices: Philippines, Ukraine, India, Georgia and the EU.
